How to Run Programs as Administrator in Windows 7/8/10?

Since Windows Vista/7/8/10 and Windows Server 2012, there are so many applications in Windows that require to run the program as an administrator.

In this article, we have explained three different ways to run and configure a program as an administrator. You can follow our step-by-step guide to run any of the program with Administrator Privileges.

1) Run any Program as an Administrator Privilege

Go to Start Menu > Search the program like cmd or command prompt > right-click the program icon and click on run as administrator.

2) Run any Program as an Administrator with a Keyboard Shortcut

To run any program as an administrator, there’s a keyboard shortcut as well.

Select a program icon, press Ctrl + Shift + Enter, click on 'Yes' to the User Access Control (UAC) warning and the program will be launch in administrator mode.

Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift and double click on the program icon.

3) How to configure any program to always run as an administrator?

In this article, we have taken the example of Adobe Reader program to always run as administrator. You can do the same steps with any other program which you want to run as administrator.

Step #1: Right-click the program shortcut and click on properties as shown in below snapshot.

Step #2: Following screen will appear showing program path in Target section. Now copy this path and navigate to program path.

To Navigate to program path:

Go to Start > type Run


Press Window + R key to open Run > then Paste the target path and hit Enter to open the target folder.

Step #3: Find (the .exe file) of Adobe Reader program.

Step #4: Right-click the program icon (the .exe file) and choose Properties. A new dialog box of Adobe Program properties will open.

Step #5: In this dialog box, go to Compatibility tab, and select the Run this program as an administrator option. Click Apply, then OK.

Now if you try to open Adobe Reader application on double click, it will run as administrator.

Now if you want to configure any other program to run as an administrator, you can follow the above steps. All the steps will remain same for every program.

Our Recommendation: You should configure only those programs to run as an administrator which you use mostly. If any of the program you use occasionally, you can follow method-1 and method-2 to run the program as an administrator.
