How to Create Website Shortcut on Desktop – IE, Chrome, Firefox
Just like any other shortcut (file, folder or Internet explorer), users can also create website shortcut. There are two ways to create website shortcut on your Desktop.
- First, you can create a website shortcut from your desktop itself which I have explained in my previous article, see create a website shortcut from your desktop.
- Second, you can create your favorite website shortcut from your web browser.
Create Website Shortcut on Desktop - IE
Method-1: In Internet Explorer, open your favorite website and right click in any blank space on website page as shown in below snapshot. Now from context pop up menu, select Create shortcut option.
Here you will get a dialog box asking you "Do you want to put a shortcut to this website on your desktop?" Click on Yes button to create website shortcut on your desktop.
Method-2: Go to favicon icon in your web browsers address bar from left side of the URL. Now drag the favicon icon to your desktop, that's all. Your website shortcut will be created. This is the simplest method and work in all web browsers like IE, Google Chrome and Firefox.
Create Website Shortcut on Desktop - Chrome
Open Google Chrome and browse your favorite website or any website which you want to create as a shortcut. Click on triple dot > select More tools > Click on Add to desktop...
You will get a dialog box asking you to Add shortcut to desktop. Now click on Add button to create shortcut on your desktop. If you open the shortcut you made, your default browser will open, and display the page for which you made the shortcut.
Here you will find a checkbox "Open as window". If you check this option, your shortcut will open website in window not in regular browser.
If you uncheck this option, your shortcut will open website in default browser as normal. You can check the difference by yourself doing this simple trick.
Create Website Shortcut on Desktop - Firefox
In Firefox, resize the Firefox window so you can see both Desktop and Firefox window on the same screen.
Now click the favicon icon on the left of the address bar (where the URL is shown). While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created.
You can also drag and drop items to the desktop from Bookmarks menu and the Library window to create shortcuts.
